What's your favorite game?
"My answer will be different depending on when you ask me. Right now I'm thinking System Shock 2, but I think that's partially because I'm eagerly anticipating Bioshock. Here's my other favorites: Thief, Deus Ex, System Shock, Fallout, Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, Ultima 3, Master of Magic, Half Life, Half Life 2, KOTOR. And I'm probably forgetting a few."
What moment in the game industry is most memorable to you?
"My first day in the industry, in QA at Origin Systems. EA and Origin Systems made most of my favorite games for the Commodore 64, and my first day working for Origin was surreal to me, like a dream."
What do you like most about being a developer?
"The occasional chance to innovate and be really creative on internal projects. That and I like the very connected nature of the game industry, it's great for networking."
What do you wish you knew 20 years ago that you know today?
"That if I took up smoking, I'd still be smoking in 20 years. Also, I wish I took up game development earlier to get a chance to get in on the pioneering days of game development, when games were smaller and easier to make, and more importantly when the opportunity was better for individuals and small teams to strike gold." |
